Conclusion

Our research results from the data we had collected, showed that there is no relationship between a person's BMI and height.

However through literature reviews, we were encouraged to further find out if there is a relationship between BMI and height in the specific genders ie. Male and Female respectively. (Based on Literature Review 1)

From our data collected, we have concluded that there is no relationship between BMI and height, for both the Male and Female.

There are a few hypothesis as to why the conclusion we made, and the one in the Literature Review 1 is different.

Firstly, the subjects that we used (20 males and 20 females) which may have been too small a number, for us to draw a significant relationship for both Male and Female, in relation to the question of BMI being related to Height. The range of height is small, and thus may have affected our results.

Secondly, the study from Literature Review 1, was done is Israel, and thus, it might not be applicable to us, due to ethnic and cultural differences.

Therefore, since the results from Data Collection 1 and Data Collection 2 are the same, we conclude that gender does NOT affect the relationship between BMI and height. It is considered to be an extraneous variable.

Based on Literature 2 and 3, we discovered that there are many other variables that BMI is dependent on, such as age, and ethnicity. However when we embarked on this project, we did not collect the data on their ethnicity as we felt that it was not important, and will not affect BMI. Therefore, to improve our data collection in the future, we should collect as much data as possible to test for relationships between different factors.

  1. In the literature, multiple regression was used - age, gender and ethic. But in your study, simple linear regression was considered. Would that impact the study?
